intro Keita Sano Spring Summer Collection
In 2015 I started working with Tokyo Digital Music Syndicates. At the time, we ran the now defunct Wasabeat digital download store and were starting a new venture called Qrates. One of my jobs was to go through interviews and proof read them, fixing up the English. Amongst those many interviews two stood out; one was with Soichi Terada and the other with Keita Sano.
Wada-san and Mars89 from the office told me that it would be ‘muzukashii’ to meet up with Keita let alone book him for a gig but I stayed patient, messaging him regularly on Facebook and getting the odd response. Eventually, in the summer I had the chance to see him play at Oppa La a high-rise venue in Fujisawa just south of Tokyo. That was an interesting day to say the least... we hung out, drank loadsa beers, munched on the club’s Japanese curry and danced to Ray Mang expertly weave his way through a set of house, disco and techno.
Just as the sun was setting, me and my mate Raul were dancing to Keita’s set and starting to come up on our acid. As we watched the sea peacefully lap the shore we spotted a fellow foreigner, joking around ‘who’s that English teacher hanging out here?’. On closer inspection it was Prins Thomas standing with Kenji Takimi, who was about to sign Keita to his label Rett I Fletta.
Three years on after many releases and a few trips to Europe together Keita gave me access to his music folders from 2014-2018. One of the interesting things about Keita is that he believes making music is like keeping a diary meaning there was about 500 genre-spanning tracks to listen to employing almost all the studio gear and techniques available to him. Keita has just moved to Berlin, so I hope you guys can enjoy his vibe as much as I have over the years.

intro Keita Sano Spring Summer Collection
